Cabeza de Vaca (Head of the Cow) Archaeological Zone

Cabeza de Vaca is a complex built on a base of stone and adobe that also includes a high concentration of cultural material (ceramics, bones, stone tools and refuse piles) dispersed on adjacent hillsides. Archaeological investigations suggest a period of occupation that started from the Late Intermediate Chimú culture to the Late Horizon, the Inca Empire. This site had a transcendent notoriety in the pre-Hispanic era. Spanish historians knew it simply as the “Corrals.”
